Chronic Pain – Chronic pain comes from 1) a compression or 2) a compression and a rotation. With bad posture, your body typically has both of these which causes an endless cycle of repetitive stress inflammation which leads to chronic pain. By correcting your posture, it takes away the compressions, fixes the rotations and unwinds the compensations which then gives the unhappy nerves the space then need to rest and recover on your way to becoming pain free.
Performance – People sometimes look at me funny when I first tell them how improving posture can improve athletic and brain performance; however, when I explain the simple anatomy and physiology behind why, it all begins to make sense.
Contrary to what we were once taught, Muscle strength is not just about muscle size! Muscle strength is about the efficiency of the nerve energy that goes to the muscles. When a nerve is compressed by as little as the weight of a nickel, the nerve energy output can decrease muscle strength by 40%! That means even small amounts of pressure put on a nerve due to misalignments and poor posture can decrease strength dramatically.
By correcting posture and improving movement, we are in effect removing the compressions and rotations that are decreasing nerve energy to your muscles. The result is improved strength, range of motion and overall athletic performance... And no extra muscle bulk.
